School Vision

Mission Statement

To assist parents in the integral education of their daughters to become free and responsible women who know and love the truth.

Goal

The goal of Hawthorn School for Girls is to provide children, as members of a family unit, with an integral education. This education is based upon the natural virtues, illuminated by the full recognition of man's supernatural end.

Principles

Parents are the primary educators of their children; the school, founded by parents, operates as an aid to the parents.

Underlying all the activities of the school is the unquestioned acknowledgement of the existence of God, of knowable objective truth, and of moral absolutes.

Substantial parental involvement is essential and expected. To safeguard and promote the unity of the family and the coherence of the educational endeavour, the school also contributes to the formation of the parents and teachers.

The philosophy which inspires the curriculum, the formation, the activities and the life of the school is in harmony with and anchored in reality by the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Religious formation harmonizes the different aspects of life under the guidance of Christian doctrine.

Operating Characteristics

All parents of children enrolled in the school must accept the Goal, Principles and Operating Characteristics of the school.

Both prospective students and their parents are interviewed before admission.

Since parents are considered an essential part of the educational process at the school, the expected parental involvement implies both reinforcement at home of the academic, spiritual and character development encouraged by the school and participation in the activities of the school.

Close liaison between parents and the school is ensured by an advising program. Each pupil is assigned an advisor whose task is to integrate the formation received in the home with that received in the school, always in full unity with the parents.

Teachers are to adopt the goal and principles of the school. They receive a continuing in-service and a personal formation program consistent with the philosophy of the school.

The school is open to non-Catholics; their needs, beliefs, and sensitivities are respected.

At the Board’s request, the Prelature of Opus Dei provides a priest to give spiritual assistance to the school.
