How to apply

Upper School

Prospective students are encouraged to participate in a day with their grade. This provides an opportunity for the school and the interested family to come to a clearer understanding of the suitability of each.

    Lower School

Prospective students are encouraged to spend a half-day at the school in their grade, participating in the daily activities of that grade. This provides an opportunity for the school and the interested family to come to a clearer understanding of the suitability of each.

    Junior School

Prospective students for junior and senior kindergarten are encouraged to spend a few hours at the school in their grade, participating in the daily activities of that grade. This provides an opportunity for the school to assess the child and to see how the child adapts to his/her new environment. Hawthorn School accepts boys in the Junior School.

An entrance examination consisting primarily of an English and a mathematics test is administered during the student’s visit. The homeroom teacher writes a report on the student’s visit and makes a recommendation. The principal of the Upper School interviews the student and also makes a recommendation. A member of the admissions committee interviews the parents on a subsequent day and writes a report on the interview. This report together with the entrance examination results and the reports from the principal and the homeroom teacher make up the student file, which is then passed on to the Executive Council for their admission decision.
